1964 Nickel Value
The 1964 Jefferson nickel was struck in enormous quantities (over 2.8 billion across Philadelphia and Denver) and contains no silver — so a typical 1964 nickel is worth five cents. Value comes only from high grade or special varieties.
Key facts
- Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel — no silver (unlike 1942–1945 war nickels).
- Extremely common; premiums apply to gem full-step (5FS/6FS) examples and proofs.
- Some 1964 nickels were actually struck into 1965–1966 during the coin shortage.
